The Patterson Foundation has announced a dollar-for-dollar matching opportunity to support four community organizations as they recover from being forced to return more than $1.2 million in charitable donations being clawed back following the Nadel Ponzi scheme. The foundation will match up to $640,000 in donations made to these organizations, which is half of what is needed to reimburse the nonprofits.
The Patterson Foundation’s leaders believe that this unexpected and unsolicited clawback requires an emergency response. The matching campaign will assist these local organizations in their individual recovery plans.
“Each of these entities deliver tremendous value to our region, and this unanticipated disaster detracts from their focus,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “Supporting their recovery efforts through this match enables each organization to work with donors who understand this obligation must be put to rest, so they can continue delivering programming excellence.”
As these organizations have already begun raising money and making settlement payments, The Patterson Foundation structured the opportunity to match both new dollars and retroactively match dollars already raised.
