|SARASOTA, Fl.—October 1, 2013— All Faiths Food Bank presents its annual soup and potters luncheon benefit “Bowls of Hope” on Sunday, November 3, 2013. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, at Phillippi Estate Park at 5500 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.
Guests will enjoy the lovely estate grounds, tented for both sun and rain, as they browse hundreds of ceramic bowls created by local potters, to take one home to keep as a reminder of the many empty bowls in our community. More than 40 local restaurants have donated soup for the luncheon, and attendees will have the opportunity to taste as many as three varieties before selecting their favorite. Bread, dessert and beverages will also be provided.
This soup and potters event was started almost 15 years ago by a high school teacher in Michigan who wanted to make a difference in the community as an artist. He enlisted his pottery students and as a reminder of soup lines, neighborhood restaurants to provide soup. The resulting outpouring of support for the effort has allowed the event to grow to an annual luncheon in cities across America.
“This is such a popular event,” said All Faiths’ Executive Director Sandra Frank, “It brings together so many types of people – the artists, foodies, chefs, and Food Bank supporters – all in one beautiful place for a great cause.”
More than 1,000 handcrafted ceramic bowls are made and donated by local artists, students, and groups including Carla’s Clay, Englewood Art Center, Nancy Hart, Out-of-door Academy, Pete Nye, Pineshores Presbyterian Church, Sister Maureen of Venice, and Venice Art Center.
