CLEARWATER, Fla. — The City of Clearwater’s Planning & Development Department has extended the deadline for artists, designers, and residents to sign up to participate in the Reclaim Your Space event scheduled for Nov. 7. Participants will transform metered parking spaces into temporary public parks, or parklets. Applications are currently being accepted from individuals or groups who would like to install a mini-park, now through Monday, Oct. 7. Parking meter charges will be paid for by the Planning & Development Department, and there is no additional fee to reserve a parking space and to participate in the event.

The event will feature several metered parking spaces along the Cleveland Street District in downtown that will be transformed for a day into mini-parks. All parklets must be designed to promote love of Clearwater, recreation, green living, alternative transportation, or a combination of concepts.
“This one-day event is a ‘Love Note’ from the city to its residents,” says Lauren Matzke, Planning Manager and coordinator of the event. “It’s part of the ‘For the Love of Clearwater’ series, sponsored in part by the Clearwater Downtown Partnership.”
