Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough Counties, Florida (October 3, 2013) – The Medical Center of Trinity announces the opening of Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine. This new department provides a valuable resource for patients with hard to treat wounds. Medical Center of Trinity has acquired an experienced team, cutting-edge treatments and evidence-based clinical protocols to provide superior healing outcomes for difficult to heal wounds. Treatment options will include aggressive wound debridement, bioengineered tissue products and negative pressure wound therapy.
The Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine department at Medical Center of Trinity is under the medical direction of Luis Ramos, MD, Medical Director, and Sharon Owen, RN, BSN, Program Director.
Dr. Ramos is a Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP) and Diplomat of the American Board of Wound Management. He received his medical degree from the highly prestigious Mount Sinai Medical School in New York City. He is a board certified neurosurgeon and a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Ramos was fellowship trained in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. He also holds an MBA from the University of South Florida Business School-Tampa. He comes to Medical Center of Trinity having served as Medical Director of the Neuroscience Center at Orlando Regional Medical Center and was co-director of brain tumor and radiosurgery programs at MD Anderson Cancer Center of Orlando (MDACCO).
Sharon Owen, RN, BSN, will serve as Program Director for the Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Department. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in military science and leadership from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and was honorably discharged as a US Army Captain with seven years as an active duty army nurse with two deployments to Iraq (Abu Ghraib and Camp Cropper Iraq). Ms. Owen holds a Bronze Star Award and Meritorious Service Medal for achievements during Operation Iraqi Freedom. She also holds the Humanitarian Service Medal for achievements during Hurricane Katrina relief.
