|SARASOTA, Fl.—October 2, 2013— All Faiths Food Bank announced today that a new refrigerated truck has been purchased through a grant of $125,000 from the Edward H. Lyman Charitable Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. The new addition will replace an old truck that is to be retired.
This will be the second All Faiths Food Bank truck purchased through the generosity of Mr. Lyman; the new vehicle will be used to pick up food donations and purchases, and make deliveries to more than 180 agencies and programs for food distribution throughout Sarasota and DeSoto Counties. In just one year, the first Lyman truck traveled over 100,000 miles to make sure that our hungry neighbors have access to food.
A few years ago, Mr. Lyman’s attorney – former Community Foundation of Sarasota County Board Chair Charla Burchett – arranged for a site visit to All Faiths Food Bank for Mr. Lyman, and he was overwhelmed by the impact the organization makes on our community. “I had a lot of requests for donations,” said Mr. Lyman several years ago, “but nothing appealed to me like the wonderful work All Faiths Food Bank is doing.” Before his death, at 100 years old last year, he created the Edward H. Lyman Charitable Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to support All Faiths Food Bank and help feed the hungry in perpetuity.
“Mr. Lyman led an incredible life and we were so fortunate to call him our friend, as well as one of our strongest supporters and advocates,” said All Faiths’ Executive Director Sandra Frank. “Because of his generosity and foresight, his legacy – through the Community Foundation – will help us provide food to hungry families here for years to come, and we are extremely grateful.”
“Our top priority is to ensure donor peace of mind by always honoring their intentions, enabling their philanthropic goals to become a reality,” said Community Foundation President and CEO Roxie Jerde. “Mr. Lyman cared deeply about eradicating hunger and, by creating a fund with us, this wonderful man is still making a positive impact in our community, ensuring his legacy will live on for generations.”
