ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – September 30, 2013 – The Florida Orchestra (TFO) has announced that Ashley Furniture, the #1 furniture manufacturer and retailer, has made a four-year sponsorship commitment to the orchestra’s highly popular, annual Pops in the Park Concert at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg. The sponsorship is under the auspices of the organization’s arts arm, Ashley for the Arts, a non-profit organization offering family-friendly events with world-class entertainment, art, exercise and play activities.
The upcoming October 19th concert at Vinoy Park will be celebrating its 20th anniversary and will be recognizing orchestra patron Helen Torres for her long-term and generous support and stewardship of this event since 1993.
Torres, who recently retired from the world of real estate and her brokerage business, Homes by Helen, said, “It has been a wonderful honor to help make these concerts possible for so many years. I am very pleased to see Ashley Furniture, a business of global stature, stepping forward to support the orchestra and sponsor this wonderful tradition of sharing live symphonic music at Vinoy Park with everyone in our community.”
Ashley Furniture President and CEO Todd Wanek said, “We are thrilled to support The Florida Orchestra and the Pops in the Park concert at Vinoy Park. Bringing the gift of symphonic music to nearly 15,000 patrons each fall gives us an opportunity to share with the greater Tampa Bay area our love for the arts. This association, for us, is a very natural one. In Arcadia, Wisconsin, where our manufacturing headquarters is located, we established Memorial Park and the Millennium Amphitheater bringing arts and world-class entertainment to the community. We felt compelled to touch the Florida community in a similar way as our global retail headquarters is located in the city of Brandon. Uniting with The Florida Orchestra also aligns with our organization’s philosophy of supporting the arts, humanity and one’s community.”
This year’s event will also include musical performances from local area elementary, middle and high schools. “Our intent is to maximize the opportunity by highlighting artists with varying degrees of experience,” said Todd Wanek. “This level of engagement with the community provides young artists with a platform to pursue their passion for music and we would like nothing more than to support their effort.”
