Event: Southeastern Guide Dogs’ four Pinellas County puppy raiser groups will be meeting at the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport on Thursday, September 26th at 6:45 pm, so the puppies-in-training can gain important experience on their journey to becoming a guide dog. Representatives from the airport will lead the group of approximately 36 adorable pups-in-training and their puppy raisers. The tour will begin in baggage claim and travel through the airport and security.
Why: It is important for all puppies-in-training to be exposed to as many real life situations as possible before they take on the incredible responsibility of being a guide. By allowing them to experience these tasks as puppies, they grow to be confident, unflappable guide dogs. Guide dogs allow the visually impaired to experience life to the fullest by providing independence and mobility.
About Southeastern Guide Dogs: Established in 1982, Southeastern Guide Dogs’ mission is to create and nurture a partnership between a visually impaired individual and a guide dog, facilitating life’s journey with mobility, independence and dignity. Through their programs Paws for Independence™, Paws for Patriots™, and Gifted Canines™ they have more than 400 active guide dog teams across the nation and continue to add more than 70 teams annually, all at no charge to the guide dog recipient, thanks to the generous support of donors and volunteers. They are one of only ten accredited guide dog schools in the United States and the only one in the southeast.
