Tampa, Fla. – September 23, 2013 – Carlton Fields is pleased to announce that three lawyers, Scott D. Feather, Jon M. Philipson and Mariko K. Shitama, have joined the firm’s Tampa office as associates. Feather practices in the firm’s Real Property Litigation practice group while Philipson and Shitama practice in the firm’s Business Litigation and Trade Regulation practice group.
Feather’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, including commercial foreclosures, landlord-tenant actions, lender liability, disputes among members of closely-held entities, derivative actions, and class actions. Previously, Feather was an associate in the Tampa office of Trenam Kemker.
Feather received his J.D., summa cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Wake Forest University.
Philipson aids clients with their litigation, counseling and strategic communications needs by utilizing his experiences in the private and public sectors. In the public sector, Philipson’s experience includes: law clerk to Chief Judge Anne C. Conway, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida; congressional aide to former U.S. Representative Jim Davis (D-FL); and press intern for U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA). In private practice, Philipson worked as a public policy intern for B&D Sagamore (now Faegre B&D Consulting) and he served as a summer associate for multiple years at Peterson & Myers, P.A.
Philipson received his J.D. summa cum laude, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. He also received a B.A. in economics and in romance languages, summa cum laude, from Washington and Lee University. He is active in both professional and community organizations including: member of United Way Suncoast Early Literacy Initiative Committee, The Florida Bar Constitutional Judiciary Committee, University of Florida Law Alumni Council, and the Washington & Lee University Alumni Admission Program (regional interviewer). He also serves as a Law Alumni Mentor for the University of Florida.
Previously, Shitama served as certified legal intern to the Office of the Public Defender, 8th Judicial Circuit in Gainesville, Florida. She has also clerked for the Equal Justice Initiative, and worked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Florida.
Shitama received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and her B.A. in Philosophy from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is proficient in Spanish and American Sign Language.
