|SARASOTA & BRADENTON, FL, September 24, 2013 – Fawley Bryant Architects in co-operation with Tandem Construction and Milton Shenk LLC, have completed the renovation of the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens Great Room by the Bay. The 3,600 s.f. facility seats approximately 175 persons at round tables or 250 theater style. The renovation included floor-to-ceiling improvements with generous financial assistance from Selby Board Trustee Sandy Rederer, as well as in-kind services provided by Fawley Bryant Architects, Tandem Construction and Milton Shenk. Renovation began in July 2013 and were completed in August 2013.
Since the late 1980’s with its native plant life and 60-feet of glass windows offering spectacular views of the bay, the Great Room by the Bay remains a popular venue for weddings and other private events. The project included mostly aesthetic renovation to the building’s main assembly room and restrooms. The new attractive flooring in the main room is both high performing and versatile enough to compliment any themed decor, while the facility interiors received a lighter, brighter make over with a fresh, white finish for a backdrop that can accommodate any event style.
Ceiling tiles, lighting fixtures and fire sprinklers were replaced throughout the facility while the final touches to the Great Room by the Bay are the addition of floating illuminated fabric kites assembled within the ceiling alcove which can be accented with colored spotlight lenses adding drama and effect for every celebration.
“The Great Room improvements and our spectacular garden setting on the Bay make Selby Gardens the best place in Sarasota for weddings and other social events” said Board Member Rederer, who also acknowledged the creative team behind the renovation. Selby Board Chair Cathy Layton added, “The place is glorious. My thanks and compliments to all…what a great team.” Selby Gardens CEO, Tom Buchter went on, “Thanks again to everyone for making the Great Room project a great success.”
