SARASOTA, Fla. (Sept. 12, 2013) The Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County announced the winners of its 2013 EDC Legacy Awards at the organization’s annual meeting today at the Sarasota Hyatt Regency.
The Clyde Nixon Business Leadership Award, sponsored by Sun Hydraulics, went to Norbert Donelly, chairman of Tervis .
For more than 25 years, Donelly has contributed to the well-being of Sarasota County by growing a local family business into one of the area’s largest private employers. After building a career in New York investment and banking firms, Donelly took over the family business in 1989. Taking a local product, he grew Tervis’ market to a national player.
Donelly supports Booker High School’s Visual and Performing Arts program, the Sarasota Ballet, and West Coast Black Theatre Troupe as well as serving as a current board member of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation and a previous board member of the Spanish Pointe and Laurel Civic Center.
The 2013 Community Partner of the Year Award, sponsored by Halfacre Construction Company, went to Goodwill Manasota.
Goodwill Manasota is founded on the very simple goal of improving lives by providing “a hand up, not a hand out” by transforming unwanted items into jobs. The organization has since grown into a major employer and economic driver. Goodwill Manasota employs more than 750 people and provides training and programs that lead to self-sufficiency and provides benefits to the area economically, socially and environmentally.
The EDC Legacy Awards celebrate the commitment and energy of an individual and of a non-profit organization that understands and practices economic development and making a daily difference.
