(Bradenton, FL) Are you ready for the blues? To help gear up for the second annual Bradenton Blues Festival, Realize Bradenton is launching the “Blues Bar Buzz,” a three-concert series at local venues showcasing Albert Castiglia and Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones —artists who will perform at the 2013 Bradenton Blues Festival on December 7, 2013, at downtown Bradenton’s Riverwalk. At each “buzz” event, festival tickets will be available for a $5 discount and festival hats, t-shirts and limited-edition posters will be for sale. In addition, raffles will take place between sets for general admission tickets and hats and t-shirts. A signed, limited-edition 2012 festival poster by Mary GrandPré will also be raffled off.
Johnette Isham is the executive director of Realize Bradenton, the organizing force behind the festival. According to Isham, this inaugural series will, “help shine a light on our region’s celebrated blues venues and artists. Sarasota-Manatee is home to a host of award-winning artists and clubs, offering up inspired, soulful blues every night of every week. We’re proud to show our solidarity with them.” The Blues Bar Buzz promotion is co-sponsored by the Blues Music Magazine and the Suncoast Blues Society.
The Blues Bar Buzz unfolds at three venues in Sarasota and Manatee counties. The kick-off concert showcases Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones, September 14, 8:30 p.m. at the Blue Rooster, 1525 4th St. in Sarasota. This group delivers traditional blues, West Coast and Texas swing, early rock, country and roots music—offering all due respect to the heritage of the blues while consistently delivering originality. Deming’s swinging jump blues style has earned him critical acclaim in the blues world, where he’s backed such notables as Chicago Pete, Black Tops Johnnie Dyer and the legendary Lazy Lester. Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones returns on November 3—this time at Ocean Blues, 1936 Hillview Street in Sarasota. As one critic recently enthused: “Doug Deming & The Jewel Tones delivers the fresh sound and styles of blues and swing way past the expiration date.” For more info about this concert, call 941-366-3010.
The final concert happens November 8, at 9 p.m., at Aces Live, 4343 Palma Sola Boulevard, Bradenton, with Albert Castiglia, who’s enjoyed a series of steady gigs throughout South Florida and beyond, thanks to his soulful growl, stage-scorching guitar solos and unique brand of Delta-blues-inspired rock. Young by blues standards, but with a breadth of live studio and life experience under his belt, Castiglia is set to become a major force on the blues and blues-rock scene.
