|Pasco County, Florida — Pasco Economic Development Council, Inc., honored eight fast-growing companies at its 27th Industry of the Year Awards on Wednesday, September 4at Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel and reported a successful year of 583 new jobs created in Pasco County.
The Pasco EDC Annual Banquet is a time to celebrate the award winners, but also serves as an update to the community on economic development progress made in the Pasco Community.
The festivities were kicked off by the night’s emcee, Al Ruechel, Senior Anchor for Bay News 9, as he retold the story of his first visit to Saddlebrook Resort to interview famed tennis player, Jim Courier. Ruechel then introduced Mr. Trey Starkey, CEO of Starkey Land Company and Pasco EDC Board Chair, who gave a brief report on the progress made by the organization.
“Things are picking up, and as a huge Duck Dynasty fan, I’ve got to tell you that makes me HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY,” said Starkey, referring to the popular reality TV show. “As for Pasco EDC, I am happy to report that we will hit all our numbers. We’re estimating that we will help create 583 new jobs, $40.2 million capital investment, 287,000 square feet occupied, and $22.5 million in annual payroll.”
Following the progress report, Ruechel introduced the eight companies recognized as Pasco EDC’s 2013 Industry of the Year Award Winners. The awards were given as follows:

Each year, Pasco EDC solicits company nominations for the awards. Nominees need to exhibit exemplary growth in technology, innovation, job creation, capital investment and community service. The nominees are interviewed by members of the Pasco EDC Award Committee using a specific grading scale to determine winners.

Pasco EDC’s banquet is regarded as the premier business event in Pasco County. The banquet was attended by over 600 business and community leaders in Tampa Bay and Pasco County, including state and federal legislators, county commissioners, and city officials. It also included a business trade show featuring 48 companies from around Tampa Bay.
