Getting into the Season’s Spirit Dec. 22
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Sept. 3, 2013) –After more than 25 years into his career, Chris Isaak finally created the album he always wanted to make – with the sounds of the glory days of Memphis and the legendary Sun Studio. Isaak will perform these classics from Beyond the Sun and – add classic holiday favorites – during a Dec. 22 concert at The Mahaffey Theater at 7 p.m.
Tickets for Chris Isaak Live/The Holiday Tour 2013 start at $39.50 and will go on sale Friday, Sept. 13 at noon.
Isaak’s Vanguard Records 2012 release, Beyond the Sun, was inspired by Sam Phillips’ Sun Studio greats: Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Howlin’ Wolf and BB King.
One might ask, “What took him so long?”
“When I (first) started making music,” Isaak explains, “I thought if I do those songs, where do I go from there. I wanted to make sure I found my own sound and established who I was. But I always loved that music and wrote songs in that spirit.”
Isaak was joined on the album by longtime band members, bass player Rowland Salley, drummer Kenney Dale Johnson, guitarist Hershel Yatovitz, pianist Scott Plunkett and percussionist Rafael Padilla.
Beyond the Sun was produced as a 14-song standard album and a double album version that includes 11 more tracks. The standard album features versions of handpicked selections originally recorded by Elvis, Cash, Orbison and Perkins. The longer album set includes songs by Jimmy Wages, Howlin’ Wolf, BB King and original compositions penned by Isaak.
Isaak’s Live/Holiday Tour 2013 will feature some of these ‘50s old time classics and holiday songs that you’ll either want to sing – or hum along to.
