TAMPA, Fla. (August 30, 2013) – One of the Tampa Bay Technology Forum’s Grow Tampa Bay Tech initiatives is to expand internship opportunities for local technology students, and with so many of these students being veterans, TBTF has partnered with the Office of Veterans Services and the Student Veterans Association at the University of South Florida to produce the first Veteran Internship and Job Fair with a focus on technology skills. The fair will take place Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Marshall Student Center Ballroom on the USF Tampa campus.
“There are so many bright, creative, technology-focused veterans at our local universities, colleges and trade schools. The best part, too, is that many of these students already have vast real world experience working with a variety of technologies,” said Heather Kenyon, president of TBTF. “We are bringing these talented students together and putting them in front of employers who are looking for highly skilled candidates to join their teams.”
Military veterans and their spouses are invited to attend the free event to explore internship and employment opportunities with local veteran friendly organizations. Register to attend at http://www.cvent.com/events/veteran-internship-job-fair/event-summary-bc2d2f97a24a44aa90bf3e65c7f99fec.aspx.
Organizations interested in hiring from this talented applicant pool offering demonstrated discipline and leadership skills, should visit www.tbtf.org/veteransfair today to participate.
TBTF: Grow Tampa Bay Tech (GTBT) was created after TBTF released a report that showed there is a growing demand for IT talent in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties and the rising concerns over the ability to maintain a steady pipeline of skilled employees. GTBT is tasked with coordinating the implementation of the recommendations for closing the IT skills gap in the Bay area, which were identified by the IT Workforce Taskforce.
