TAMPA. Pet owners from as far away as Naples will travel to Tampa next Saturday, September 7, to honor the memory of their pets—past, present and future—as part of National Pet Memorial Day, which falls on the first Sunday of September.
Nationally-known veterinarian Dr. Dani McVety, the founder of Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice will deliver the keynote address. She will be joined by Nikki McQueen, vice president of Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes and Tribute Center and former Tropicana president and CEO Brock Leach, who did and internship in chaplaincy at Tampa General Hospital and now serves as vice president of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee in Boston.
The tribute will be held at the Stetson College of Law Center in downtown Tampa, 1700 North Tampa Street, three blocks north of the Straz Center. There is free parking on the scenic campus, which overlooks downtown Tampa and the Hillsborough River.
The two hour Emerson Forum, which begins at 10 a.m., is the second in a series on end of life care, sponsored by the Emerson Center of Tampa Bay, a nonprofit community educational organization. Tickets are available online for $ 25 ($ 15 for students and seniors) at http://emersonforum.tix.com. Refreshments will be served and group discussions will be held after the morning presentations. All those attending are invited to bring a picture—and stories—about their pets.
