Make a Difference in Sarasota County!

August 28, 2013 by Press Release

Sarasota, Fl. August 28, 2013 – Are you ready to make a difference in Sarasota County? Volunteer Community Connections is gearing up for Make A Difference Day on Oct. 26, 2013.

Sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine in partnership with HandsOn Network, Make A Difference Day is the nation’s largest day of doing good. For nearly two decades, Make A Difference Day has consistently called millions to action to feed, clothe and house their neighbors.

There are many ways  to  participate in this fun day of doing good, either by joining opportunities already being planned or by organizing an activity of your own and registering them.

As an advocate for prompting the value of volunteerism, Volunteer Community Connections brings volunteers together with nonprofits to meet community needs. VCC works as a leader in our community, mobilizing people of all ages and backgrounds to volunteer by investing their resources, time and talent to make a difference in their own lives as well as the lives of those served.

“In connecting people with the needs and services in our community, Volunteer Community Connections works as a catalyst by creating, developing, implementing and supporting volunteer engagement,” explains Mindi Rohan, Executive Director, “Sarasota has a rich history of coming together to help our neighbors. This year promises to be no different.”

Make a Difference Day events that are already in the works include collaborations with Ringling School of Art, Newtown Coalition and Good Will Industries.

A large part of Make a Difference is Brush Up Sarasota which provides homeowners in need the opportunity to have their homes painted. Over the years 50 families have received this gift from total strangers. Supplies are donated and most teams extend their efforts to yards and surroundings.

It’s not too early to register your projects at www.connectingvolunteers.org or by contacting Tom Giles at Volunteer Community Connections at tgiles@vccflorida.org. For more information on Make a Difference Day visit www.connectingvolunteers.org/make-a-difference .
