Tampa, Fla. (August 27, 2013) – The Sustany Foundation, Tampa Bay’s facilitator of promoting sustainability on a local level, announced today that its 6th Annual Sustainable Buzz event will take place Thursday, November 7 at 6 p.m. at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts Downtown Tampa on the Riverwalk. This year’s “Farm to Table” theme will celebrate the most direct journey food can take to your table – from a farmer’s hands to yours.
“Once produce is picked, it immediately starts to lose its nutrients. After only 24 hours, as much as 60 percent of the nutrients are lost, which is one of the reasons we decided to go with a locavore theme this year,” said David Reed, president of The Sustany Foundation. “Not to mention that sourcing from local farms cuts down on the energy that is used to ship produce to consumers. Our goal for The Sustainable Buzz is to increase awareness of the importance of a sustainable community for ourselves and future generations, while enjoying the best that Tampa has to offer, and the locavore theme fits right into that goal.”
Each year, The Sustainable Buzz celebrates sustainability in Tampa Bay by featuring the best of the Bay area’s quality of life including local food, drink and music on the riverfront. This year’s event of celebrating local food takes on a whole new meaning as local restaurants and farmers will team up to offer patrons food and drink samples made with locally sourced ingredients. The Sustany Foundation also hopes to have food trucks participate this year for the first time.
In addition to food, The Sustainable Buzz will feature samples of wine and craft beer from local brewers. Potential vendors can download a vendor packet at www.sustany.org.
Tickets will cost $35 per person or $60 per couple and VIP tickets will cost $150 per person or $250 per couple in advance. General admission tickets will be available at the door, but will cost $40 per person/$75 per couple. More details on this year’s exclusive VIP area and special offerings will be released soon.
