|The Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (USA) will hold a gala dinner and golf event at TPC Prestancia in Sarasota, FL. The fundraising event will include a dinner on Sunday, September 29th, followed by a golf outing on Monday, September 30th. Proceeds of the two day event will help promote and fund research, provide education, and offer support to enhance the quality of life of those affected by Prader-Willi syndrome as well as support the fight against childhood obesity. What is Prader-Willi syndome?
Prader-Willi syndrome is a complex genetic disorder that typically causes low muscle tone, short stature, cognitive disabilities, problem behaviors, and a chronic feeling of hunger that can lead to excessive eating and life threatening obesity.
It is estimated that one in 12,000 to 15,000 people is born with PWS. Although considered a “rare” disorder, PWS is one of the most common conditions seen in genetics clinics and is the most most common genetic cause of obesity. PWS is found in people of both sexes and all races.
