The week is set to inspire cyberbullying awareness and suicide prevention and intervention efforts across schools and homes of Pinellas County. Cyberbullying Awareness Week will be filled with presentations, guest appearances, contests, art and a concert celebration at the end of the week! Through these efforts, our community will make the strides it needs to move forward with technology in a positive way.
Technology has become a major part of people’s lives in today’s modern world. This is especially true for the youth. As technology use increases, the risks and dangers of cyberbullying also increase. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non- victims.
