On Friday August 23, 2013 the Computer Mentors Group Information Technology Forward Civic Justice Corps Program (CJC) will offer a “Fix Your Computer For Free Day” to the general public. Easy repairs will be taken care of on the spot and more complicated and time consuming repairs will be completed over the next week. The event is being held to help the young adults in the program to gain experience related to their training as computer technicians and provide them an opportunity to give back to the community.
CJC is a program funded by the U.S. Department of Labor. Its primary focus is to provide skills training for former juvenile offenders and, through a restorative justice model, provide opportunities for the youth to be involved in the community.
The youth in the program have been provided with opportunities to receive high school diploma’s and GED’s as well as computer skills certifications leading to employment. Approximately 20 youth are currently active in the program and will be involved in the computer repairs over the next week.
