Visit Tampa Bay releases recent metrics
Tampa, Fla. (August 6, 2013) – Third-quarter metrics for the Tampa Bay tourism industry reveal Hillsborough County hotel performance continues to support positive industry measurements. According to Smith Travel Research (STR), occupancy rate, room rate and RevPAR (revenue per available room) support positive performance indicators for fiscal year 2013.
According to STR, fiscal year-to-date annual performance figures (October 2012 – June 2013) include:
- Occupancy rate – 66.2 percent, up 1.5 percent over the same period last year
- Room rate – $91.85, up .4 percent over the same period last year
- RevPAR (revenue per available room) – $61.34, up 1.9 percent over the same period last year
Furthermore, the most substantial measure of hotel performance is the amount of Tourist Development Tax (paid by visitors) collected by Hillsborough County, which at current pace is exceeding the previous year’s collection:
- Tourist Development Tax (bed tax) – $16.8 million collected, 6 percent increase over the same nine-month period last year
Additionally, the convention and tourism sales teams secured a total of 499,927 definite room nights during the past nine-months, placing the teams at 103 percent to pace of their goal. This measurement indicates the sales force is still on track to meet the most aggressive room-night goal in Visit Tampa Bay history.
Visit Tampa Bay’s departments are aligned in order to accomplish and meet performance objectives. The tourism organization will appear before the Board of County Commissioners for Hillsborough County on Wednesday, August 7, at 10:30 a.m. to provide its quarterly performance report.
