General Dynamics Consolidation to Bring Headquarters and Jobs to Pinellas
In a July 15 press release, General Dynamics announced that that General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products will be consolidated into General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, with headquarters for the operation moving to St. Petersburg, Florida. General Dynamics spokesman Rob Doolittle reports, “There will be job growth. There will be new jobs in St. Petersburg … corporate management-type functions, finance, legal and human resources.” The move involves closing General Dynamics’ facility in Charlotte, North Carolina. “I’ve got to think that the general support for the defense industry here gave us a little edge over Charlotte,” explains Mike Meidel, Director of Pinellas County Economic Development. “It’s always great to have a Fortune 500 company and prime defense contractor choose Pinellas County for their consolidation plans.”
