St. Petersburg, FL – To prepare children for the start of school on August 19th the Junior League of St. Petersburg will hold its annual back to school program initiative, the 17th Annual
Back-To-School Care Fair on Saturday, August 3rd. The event will kick off at 8:00 AM at the Enoch Davis Recreation Center located at 1111 18th Avenue South in St. Petersburg.
The Back-To-School Care Fair is an event that provides free medical exams including physicals, immunizations, vision screenings and dental exams to any Kindergarten through 12th grade student registered to attend Pinellas County Schools for the upcoming school year. Each participating child will be given backpacks stuffed with school supplies.
The first 500 children registered will receive free medical exams provided by All Children’s Hospital. Immunizations will be provided by the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County. Vision exams as well as diabetes screenings will be provided by The St. Pete Lion’s Club. The Pinellas County Dental Hygiene Association will be performing dental exams. The Black Nurses Association will be offering free cholesterol screenings to both children and adults. Registration begins at 8:00 AM and closes at 11:00 AM for families wishing to partake in this portion of the event.
Over thirty agencies that serve the people of Pinellas County will also be on hand to provide information on local services available to residents. Other activities taking place during the
Back-To-School Care Fair includes on-site school registration provided by Pinellas County Schools, as well as bicycle safety training between 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM. Children who participate in the bicycle safety training will receive a free helmet while supplies last. Also, join the Junior League of St. Petersburg’s Kids Create Committee for arts and crafts, and receive a free book from Give-a-Book. Additional activities will be provided by the Tampa Bay Ray’s Street Team, Great Explorations Children’s Museum, Radio Disney and the WiLD 94.1 Street Team.
The community sponsors that work in conjunction with the Junior League of St. Petersburg to make this event possible are All Children’s Hospital, Tampa Bay Rays, CBS Radio, Great Explorations Children Museum, Black Nurses Association St. Petersburg Chapter, Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County, Community Health Centers of Pinellas, St. Pete Lion’s Club, Pinellas County Dental Hygiene Association, Tampa Bay Times, City of St. Petersburg, Pinellas County Schools, and Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA).
