St. Petersburg, Fla. – The Board of Trustees is excited to announce the hire of an Executive Director. The organization has been running under an interim position following the departure of the previous director in late 2011. The Board, chaired by Nancy Loehr of Duke Energy, is proud to state that the Morean has improved tremendously in its efforts towards community outreach, internal organization and most importantly its financial stability. The Board recognizes and gives much of the credit to a dedicated staff which has excelled under the leadership of Wayne Atherholt.
Wayne David Atherholt, who served as the first marketing director for the Dali Museum for 8 years and vice president of marketing for the Titanic Exhibition at the Florida International Museum and as executive director for the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach, has been named as Executive Director of the Morean Arts Center.
Atherholt has been serving as Interim Director since December of 2011, and previous to that was the Director of Marketing and Communications at the Morean.
Atherholt also is a former chairman of the Florida Attractions Association, serves on the board of the Florida Association of Museums and served on the committee that started the Downtown Looper trolley and First Fridays. Atherholt has been responsible for attracting over 6 million visitors to Florida museums.
Atherholt, along with the Board of Trustees, looks forward to more positive changes and to the successful continuation of a staple in the St. Petersburg community, including a celebration of 100 years of operation for the Morean Arts Center – originally the Art Club of St. Petersburg which opened in 1917.
