ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (July 22, 2013) – The Mahaffey Theater announces 2014 concert dates for American Idiot, the musical based on Green Day’s groundbreaking album and rock opera, and One Night of Queen, a tribute show to the blockbuster rock group.
American Idiot opens for one night, Tuesday April 8 at 7:30 p.m. Called “the first great musical of the 21st century” by The Toronto Star, American Idiot is described by The New York Times as a “wonderfully raucous and gorgeously wrought art opera…emotionally charged and as moving as anything on Broadway!”
One Night of Queen, performed by Gary Mullen and The Works, will rock the house on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. The performance is a spectacular live concert that recreates the look, sound, pomp and showmanship of one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
Both shows are presented by The Bill Edwards Foundation for the Arts. Tickets for American Idiot start at $39.50, while tickets for One Night of Queen start at $37.50. Tickets for both shows go on sale Friday, Aug. 2 at noon.
Tickets may be purchased online at TheMahaffey.com, charge by phone at 727.893.7832 or in person at The Mahaffey Theater Box Office. The Mahaffey Box Office is open 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday –Saturday and at least 90 minutes prior to any ticketed event. There are no added charges ever on tickets purchased directly from The Mahaffey Theater.
American Idiot, Green Day’s studio album, was released in 2004 and has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide and won a Grammy® for Best Rock Album. The musical received two Tony® Awards in 2010 for best set design and lighting design and also was nominated for Best Musical. The original Broadway cast recording received the 2010 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Show Album.
American Idiot is the story of lifelong friends forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of the suburbs. Smash hits include “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Holiday,” “Give Me Novacaine,” “Too Much Too Soon” and “21 Guns.”
Tickets for American Idiot are $39.50, $49.50, $59.50 and $69.50.
Gary Mullen and the Works pay tribute to rock legends, Queen and have been rockin’ sold-out houses since May 2002 in the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, South Africa and New Zealand. Tickets for One Night of Queen are $37.50 and $47.50. Group discounts (10 or more tickets) for this show are available.
