Tampa, Fla. ─ A survey of the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts Board of Trustees and the TBPAC Foundation Board has revealed overwhelming support for the proposed Residences at the Riverwalk project.
Judy Lisi, president and CEO of the Straz Center, announced this afternoon the results of the survey that showed 32 board members in support of the project and 16 against it. Fourteen board members did not vote. There we no abstentions. The blind survey was conducted at the Monday, July 15, board meeting held at the Straz Center. Board members who were unable to attend the meeting were given until July 18 to return their survey.
“It is important that we now have a significant mandate in favor of the project from our board,” said Lisi. “We are thankful that all the involved parties were interested in considering the position of our board, and we are looking forward to working with the city and the Intown/Framework Group on what is sure to be a successful endeavor.”
“We were able to present all the pros and cons of the project to the board,” said Straz Center Board Chairman Dr. Martin Silbiger. “And after thorough discussion and reflection on all aspects of this proposal, a very clear majority of our board is in favor of the project.”
Both Lisi and Silbiger stressed their enthusiasm for continued development of the city and for a healthy and vibrant downtown. They were also enthusiastic about the prospect of the improved streetscape around the Straz Center and what that will mean for enhanced patron services.
