Sarasota, FL – Kirk-Pinkerton, P.A. is pleased to announce that Stephen Mathew “Matt” Whyte has joined the firm as a shareholder. Whyte will focus on matters involving personal injury, wrongful death and civil litigation. He is Board Certified in Criminal Trial Law by the Florida Bar and brings over 14 years of legal experience to the firm’s growing personal injury practice.
The addition of Whyte is part of the Sarasota-based law firm’s ongoing plans to expand its downtown Bradenton office and its presence in Manatee County. Kirk-Pinkerton’s Bradenton office, located at 1301 6th Ave. W., will soon be the part-time home to Whyte and fellow shareholder Rebecca J. Proctor, who handles matters involving elder law, guardianship and estate planning.
“We were impressed by Matt’s legal experience and strong ties to the community,” said Kirk-Pinkerton CEO Bill Robertson. “He and his family have called Bradenton home for over 17 years, and the relationships he has built during that time will be a huge asset to him as our firm continues to grow throughout the region.”
Prior to joining Kirk-Pinkerton, Whyte was a partner in the Bradenton-based firm of Lavely & Whyte, P.A., where he represented clients involved in criminal and personal injury cases since 2003.
Whyte was born in Kentucky, raised in Ohio, and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Central Florida with a B.S. in Marketing. He received his J.D. (cum laude) and M.B.A. from Stetson University. While in law school, he completed internships with the Chief Judge of the US District Court, Middle District of Florida and the US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. He also worked as an Assistant State Attorney for over four years in Bradenton and Sarasota. As a prosecutor and defense lawyer, he has handled thousands of criminal cases, from simple misdemeanors and traffic offenses to felonies, including DUI, Battery, Domestic Violence, Elder Exploitation, Grand Theft, White Collar Fraud, Drug Trafficking, and Homicide.
