St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) posts two consecutive months with over 27% increases in passengers from the prior year. In June, PIE served 94,566 passengers, a 27% increase over June 2012, and our busiest June since 2004. For the first six months of 2013, PIE served 530,141 passengers, an increase of 13% over 2012 passengers from January – June. With 25 destinations, Allegiant accounts for about 90% of passengers at PIE and just began service to Asheville, NC on June 6th.
Airport Director Noah Lagos states, “Many Florida airports are experiencing a loss of service or seeing very little air service growth. The popularity of Allegiant’s low-cost, non-stop flights and the markets they serve has resulted in PIE’s very impressive year to date passenger increase.”
