Tampa, Fla. – July 9, 2013 – Carlton Fields’ Tampa Shareholder and immediate past President of The Florida Bar, Gwynne A. Young, received the Friend of FAWL Award from the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (FAWL) on June 26, 2013 at the FAWL reception held during The Florida Bar Annual Convention in Boca Raton, Florida.
The Friend of FAWL Award recognizes those who have made considerable contributions to FAWL and to women in Florida over the years and who are supportive of FAWL’s goals. The award is considered to be the most significant award given by the organization.
Young is the fifth woman and the fifth Carlton Fields lawyer to lead the nation’s third largest Bar. She secured the presidency in 2010 when she won the first three-way race since 1983. Her election to the Bar’s highest post followed almost a decade of service to the Bar. As of June 28, 2013, Young now serves as the Bar’s immediate past president.
Prior to joining Carlton Fields, Young served as the first female assistant state attorney in the Hillsborough State’s Attorney’s Office. She joined the firm in 1977 and became a shareholder in 1982. Her practice focuses on representing insurers in insurance coverage matters, real property litigation, probate and trust litigation, and other business disputes.
