Tampa, Fla. (July 5, 2013) – The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) announced this week that the 2014 IIFA Weekend & Awards would be held in Tampa Bay next June. This marks the first time the international world showcase event will be held in the United States of America.
The multi-day program is expected to bring thousands of visitors to the area during the summer. Previous IIFA events have generated upwards of 24,000 room nights with more than $11 million in economic impact to the host community.
“We are thrilled to be selected as the host city for IIFA. Tampa Bay makes a great host for events and meetings of all sizes. Much like Super Bowls and national political conventions place Tampa in the national spotlight, this event will place unprecedented international attention on Tampa Bay,” said Santiago Corrada, President & CEO of Visit Tampa Bay. “We are ready to welcome the IIFA to our dynamic destination.”
Visit Tampa Bay credits their selection in large part to the dedication and support of the local community. A delegation from Tampa Bay is in Macau for the 2013 IIFA Weekend & Awards taking place Thursday, July 4, through Saturday, July 6. In addition to attending, the delegation was there to support Tampa Bay’s bid. Members of the delegation include Hillsborough County Commissioner Al Higginbotham; Visit Florida Vice President of Global Brand Susannah Costello; Tampa Bay Trade and Protocol Council Vice President Deborah Wilkinson; and Tampa Bay businessman Chetan (“Jason”) R. Shah as well as Visit Tampa Bay representatives including Board Member James Ransom and prominent members of Tampa Bay’s local Indian community.
