This 5K will feature flat fast course travels over mixed terrain and is well marked with two water stations along the route. T-shirts will be given to the first 300 entrants. Independence Day Birdies for the Brave Golf Tournament

The TPC Prestancia will host a Red, White and Blue Step-Aside Scramble format golf tournament to benefit Birdies for the Brave, a non-profit organization created by TOUR player Phil Mickelson and his wife, Amy, to support troops injured during combat. The tournament will have an 8:30 a.m. shotgun and be followed by an Awards Barbecue. For each birdie or eagle made on the PGA TOUR throughout the season, a contribution of $100 for a birdie or $500 for an eagle is made to Homes For Our Troops and Special Operations Warrior Foundation. The First Brass of Sarasota will partner with the Patterson Foundation’s Legacy of Valor, the Jacobite Pipe and Drum Band, the Florida Brass, Rhythm Inlet, and the Church of the Redeemer and Cell Phones for Soldiers to present lively and patriotic music at the south end of Gulfstream Blvd. in downtown Sarasota. The 16 members of the First Brass group will play a variety of music, including patriotic, Dixieland, classical and some Beatles songs. The Jacobites will play traditional Scottish tunes and some surprises when a piper teams up with drummers from Rhythm Inlet. The Florida Brass, a large group of bugles and drums, will add to the variety while playing songs like My Funny Valentine, Phantom of the Opera, and Cute.
