Gateway Bank of Southwest Florida Receives Top Honors in the Per Capita Giving Award from United Way Suncoast
Gateway Employee Pledges Total Over $11,000 for 2013
June 13, 2013 – (Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida) – Shaun P. Merriman, President and CEO of Gateway Bank of Southwest Florida, announced today that the organization was recently awarded Top Honors in the Per Capita Giving Award for companies with 100 employees or less from the United Way Suncoast. This award was given to Gateway for employee pledge contributions averaging $553 per employee for 2013.
Gateway Bank is an avid supporter of United Way initiatives in both Sarasota and Manatee Counties. Merriman stated, “When you donate to United Way, your dollars are leveraged several times over.” He continued, “Every year I challenge our employees to increase contributions, because even small amounts make a big impact!” Gateway employee pledges for United Way of Sarasota County totaled $11,030, and for United Way of Manatee County totaled $5,147. Merriman continued, “With annual pledges totaling $16,177, our employees are making a difference in the lives of those who reside in our communities.”
Merriman, a long-time supporter of the United Way of Sarasota County, served on the Board of Directors from 2002 – 2011. He led the organization as Board Chairman in 2007/2008, and served as Campaign Chair in 2002/2003.
Cherie Mooney, the United Way Employee Campaign Manager at Gateway Bank, is also involved on the Community Investment Committee and has been instrumental in driving a Community Campaign in her own neighborhood. Alicia Wheeler and Judy Whisanant also serve on the Community Investment Committee. Various other Gateway Bank employees are actively involved in programs such as VITA, Money Matters, and Reading Pals.
Gateway Bank has received various award recognition from United Way. In March, 2012, Gateway was awarded “Top Honors in the Per Capita Giving Award” from United Way of Sarasota County for companies with 100 employees or less. In September 2010, Gateway received the 2010 “Community Partnership Award” from United Way of Sarasota County. This award is given to community organizations that GIVE through an employee campaign, ADVOCATE through active partnership during the year, and VOLUNTEER for key initiatives and activities.
