|Istanbul, Turkey – Yesterday at the 23rd Annual General Assembly, the Airports Council International World Governing Board elected Fredrick J. Piccolo, President, CEO, Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority, Chairman by a unanimous vote of the members.
Mr. Piccolo is currently Vice Chair of the ACI World Governing Board. He was nominated alongside Declan Collier, Chief Executive of London City Airport, who was elected Vice-Chair. Both Mr. Piccolo and Mr. Collier will begin their two-year leadership terms in January of 2014.
ACI World Director General Angela Gittens stated, “Today, we welcome two very qualified airport leaders whose industry expertise and knowledge will help further guide and steer ACI to provide its members with the tools, services and strategies to continue achieving operational excellence.”
Mr. Piccolo expressed his appreciation following the vote. “As newly elected Chair of ACI, which is an accomplished leader in working for its membership, I will do my utmost to help ACI grow its relationships with ICAO, IATA, CANSO, IFALPA and other stakeholder groups to ensure that ACI continues to be in a position to help airports further strengthen their operations and enhance the standing of airports on the world aviation stage.”
ACI is the only global trade representative of the world’s airports. Established in 1991, ACI represents airports’ interests with governments and international organizations, develops standards, policies and recommended practices for airports, and provides information and training opportunities to raise standards around the world.
