May 21, 2013 – (Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida) – Shaun P. Merriman, President and CEO of Gateway Bank of Southwest Florida, announced today that May 19 marks the five-year anniversary of the bank’s opening. In celebration, the bank hosted five days of client appreciation May 13 – 17.
Fun and festivities took place in all three Gateway branch locations. From chocolate and flowers to contests and windshield washing, the Gateway staff made it a memorable week for clients. The bank even introduced a limited time CD special and handed out crisp $5 bills as product samples.
“As a local hometown bank, we view our clients as the foundation of our success,” said Merriman. He continued, “We wanted to do something special to show our clients how much we appreciate their business and their referrals.” Even Merriman was outside washing car windshields for drive thru clients.
Building a strong, loyal client base has paid off. Organized in 2007 during an extremely adverse banking climate, Gateway Bank of Southwest Florida opened with $19.5 million in capital and has shown consistent profitability since its 31st month of operation. Currently, total assets exceed more than $226 million. Year-end 2012 comparisons compiled from Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFEIC) data show Gateway Bank of Southwest Florida posted a Return on Average Assets of 1.60%. This ratio ranks fourteenth among the 209 Florida-based banks, and is the highest ratio of any bank headquartered in Sarasota and Manatee Counties.
“We have built a strong foundation through difficult times and are well positioned for continued growth,” said Merriman. “We have an exceptional team of bankers, and our success is a testament to the caliber of service and commitment we provide to our clients and our community.”
The Bank opened its doors on May 19, 2008, with 20 employees, and 70% of those original employees still work at Gateway. The Bank has since grown to 40 employees.
