From June 9 – 14th, the Florida Music Institute will hold a festival for string students and teachers. Violin, viola, cello, bass and guitar are being offered for students who study the Suzuki Method or Talent Education, as well as students who perform with youth orchestra, school programs or study privately with a string teacher.
The opening ceremony and performance will be on Sunday, June 9th at 6 PM at the Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront. The closing ceremony and concert will be on Friday, June 14th at 4 PM also at the Hilton. These performances are open to the public, as are the daily recitals. From Monday, June 10th through Friday, June 14th there will be master classes, technique classes and group classes where students work to polish their skills. Adults interested in training may observe classes for a nominal fee. The daily recitals at 1:15 PM are open to the public. A $10 donation is suggested in attending performances.
Chicago young artist, Genevieve Smelser will perform at the Florida Music Institute at the Hilton on Monday, June 10th at 1 PM. Genevieve is a violinist with Quartet Morina. On May 12, 2013, Quartet Morina received a bronze medal for their performance of the Ginastera String Quartet, No. 1, Mvt. 1at the 2013 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in South Bend, Indiana.
