Brandon’s homegrown Moreno Bakery is moving into a larger facility and expanding the menu!
Brandon, Fla. – May 5, 2013 – Brandon-based Moreno Bakery started small in 2008 with less than 2,500 square feet of space and a big dream of becoming the best bakery in Florida. Jump ahead five years and that dream is well on its way to becoming a reality, with plans underway to move into a 10,000 square foot facility, also in Brandon, this summer.
Originally, Moreno Bakery planned to bake bread to sell to local restaurants and other retail outlets, with Jose Moreno as the baker and his aunt (now retired) as customer service. The first day open started with just Cuban bread and expanded to turnovers, Scachatta and other types of breads within a week. Less than a month later, cookies, pies and pastries were added to the menu. And it’s kept on growing!
Since opening, the number of employees has grown from just Jose and his Aunt to 27 and today’s menu offers far more than just bakery items and includes catering services, sandwiches and coffee. And, of course, a large variety of desserts and custom cakes, wedding cakes, cupcakes and more. In fact, Jose, Susan and their team can duplicate almost any theme on your custom cakes that will guarantee your event or party is a huge hit!
With the added space, the Moreno’s plan to expand their menu items to include soups and salads as well as expanding both their wedding cake and holiday offerings. Susan and Jose Moreno, owners of Moreno Bakery said that “Sadly, we had to turn down special orders over the past two Christmas Holiday seasons because we just didn’t have the room. This helped us decide that the time for expansion was now.”
Jose Moreno’s baking experience started in Cuba and continued here in the Tampa area in 1993 after he and some friends successfully escaped Cuba. Soon after that, Jose met and married Susan who left her job with Bank of America to join Jose at the bakery. Susan added that “We are so fortunate to have a loyal customer following and strive to live up to our reputation of baking and creating the tastiest and most attractive cakes and sweets around.”
