Yoga and Paddleboarding (SUP) unite
Tampa, FL, March 15 — The American exercise routine is changing, with more people aiming to make a mind-body connection than ever before. People are working out not only to be fit, but also as a way to manage the ever growing stress that is impacting their lives. Workouts are springing up in new locations that offer a hybrid of mind-body techniques, like yoga. No longer does getting your body fit mean you have to spend hours grueling away under the fluorescent lights of the gym. There are more choices than ever to vary your workout routines on a weekly basis and enjoy the benefits of fresh air, especially when you live in a place like sunny Florida.
Stand-up Paddleboarding Company, Urban Kai, is teaming up with local yoga instructor, Sarah Lesch, to give people this type of experience with their new weekly class, Yoga and Paddleboarding. By combining the two activities together, participants are able to take an outdoor yoga class overlooking the waters of the bay, and then adventure out on the water with the Stand-up Paddleboards provided.
Instructor Sarah Lesch says, “We are always talking about taking deep breaths in our yoga classes. But to be outside taking fresh breaths into your lungs, and hearing the sounds of the waves and the birds, offers another layer of sensory experience that we can’t give you in the yoga studio. There’s a calmness we find near the water and by being in nature. Blood pressure drops, heartbeat regulates, and stress starts to melt away. And then to be able to get out on the water, really changes the perspective. I’ve seen people come out who have some fears of the water, but once they get moving on the board, the fears begin to melt, and they feel more confident.”
Yoga and Paddleboarding begins with 30 minute yoga class overlooking the waters of the bay at the end of Davis Island in Tampa, FL. The yoga class is designed to calm the mind, build deeper breathing techniques, and warm up the muscles used for Stand up Paddleboarding. From yoga, we take off on the SUP’s provided and explore the water. There is a chance to see marine life and even attempt some of your yoga moves on the board. As Aimee Conlee, co-owner of Urban Kai says, “I love these two fitness activities paired together. Both emphasize core and balance and require some degree of bravery to attempt when you are new to them. By the end of class, everyone has these big smiles. That’s the best.”
You will leave class feeling strong, relaxed, and at peace. Class meets every Friday at 8:45a-pre-registration required to ensure board- all levels welcome. Bring a towel or yoga mat. $30/person
