|Bradenton, FL, March 29 through April 27, 2013: The Hernando de Soto Historical Society’s De Soto Heritage Festival begins on Friday, March 29 with the heartwarming Children’s Parade in Palmetto at 10 am starting at the Manatee Fairgrounds. A Party in the Park follows with food, fun and many kids’ activities in Sutton and Lamb Parks. A beautiful sunrise service will be held at the Mosaic Theater located on Bradenton’s Riverwalk on Easter Sunday at 6:30 am. On April 5, 6, & 7th the SeaFood Fest features some of the tastiest seafood and more along with arts & crafts, commercial vendors, fun & games for the kids, Born to Ride Bike Show on Sunday and two stages of outstanding entertainment including Saturday nights headliner Uncle Kracker is not to be missed!
A Bottle Boat Regatta on Saturday April 13 located at the Palma Sola Causeway, Bradenton, features kids’ homemade boats with only plastic bottles used for floating, battle it out for a range of awards so grab your sunscreen, beach blankets and cheer them on. A Musical Fashion Show will be held at the Bradenton Auditorium on Saturday, April 20th featuring ten beautiful and talented young ladies on the De Soto Queen’s Court under the direction of Ellen Meade will perform and model stylish fashions along with other talented children from our community. The elegant, black-tie De Soto Ball gala will be held on Friday, April 26 at the Bradenton Municipal Auditorium where the newest Hernando de Soto is invested and the 2013-14 Queen is crowned. Also honored are the new Princess and the Hernando’s new Crewe of Conquistadors, dancing, fun and entertainment lasting until midnight follow the ceremonies.
To conclude our festival on Saturday, April 27th the De Soto 5K run precedes the Grand Parade which steps off at 6:30 pm. Ranked as one of the largest and most prestigious parades in the South, the dazzling and exciting De Soto Heritage Festival Grand Parade is truly a sight for all ages. Over 150 illuminated parade entries along with high school marching bands light up the night with color, music and plenty of beads for everyone.
