Construction of the plant included the modification and expansion of the existing 65,000-square-foot Tampa facility to 300,000-square-feet and construction of a 26,000-square-foot hygiene building. The hygiene building achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The company uses the plant to recycle and process lead, plastic and other components from lead-acid batteries and other lead-bearing materials. The lead is then used in new automotive and industrial batteries.
In construction of the hygiene building, Walbridge and its project partners registered points in the areas of pollution prevention, brownfield redevelopment, stormwater management, water efficiency, energy performance, and use of low-emitting materials to earn LEED® Gold status.
EnviroFocus Technologies/Gopher Resource will now be able to Produce 130,000 tons of lead annually. The Tampa facility is one of four hazardous materials reclamation operation by Gopher Resource Corporation, North America’s premier lead recycling company and a recognized leader in environmental protection.
