March 8 event designed to help business owners and executives grappling with policies and practices for social media use in the workplace
Tampa, Fla. (March 6, 2013) – SmartTeam, a provider of easy to use, affordable online training tools for small and medium sized businesses (SMBs), today announced that Vicki Fox David, director of product management, will be a panelist at the March Walgreens USF-St. Petersburg Bayside Business Forum. Fox David and her fellow panelists will explore the impact of social media in the workplace and the opportunities and challenges these communications tools present for employers today.
The forum, “Social Media in the Workplace: Setting Policies and Training Employees to Protect Your Company’s Reputation Online,” will be held Friday, March 8 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., at Franklin Templeton, 100 Fountain Parkway N, St. Petersburg. It is free and open to the public.
“Many employers today are considering social media policies and training to give their team some guidelines for appropriate use and also lay down the law when it comes to behaviors that will not be tolerated,” said Fox David. “But there are some complex legal issues surrounding social media policies that have companies wondering if it’s worth it to have one at all. I look forward to discussing these issues and sharing how companies can use online training to reinforce their harassment, discrimination, confidentiality and other policies and avoid public relations disasters caused by employees’ activities on social media. “
Fox David will be joined by Jeff Alagood, chief operating officer of AgileThought, and Colin Mailloux, associate general counsel at USF. Michelle Bauer, president of Common Language, will serve as moderator. Their conversation will cover ways to maximize the positive aspects of social media in the workplace, how to create good policies that educate employees and protect companies from legal action, and what recourse employers have – and don’t have – when an employee embarrasses the company.
The Walgreens Bayside Business Forum is presented by the Dean’s Advisory Council of the College of Business at USF St. Petersburg. The series focuses on interdisciplinary collaborations that are shaping Florida’s business future.
Continental breakfast and coffee will be served. Seating is limited, so reservations are requested. To RSVP, please call (727) 873-4700 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
