Tampa, FL – Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and the Arts (TBBCA) will host its fifth annual Chalk Walk art festival March 15 – 17, in Hyde Park Village. More than 50 chalk and plein air artists will cover village sidewalks with original works of art and compete for $3,000 in cash prizes.
Chalk Walk is a free community event with family-friendly entertainment. The three-day festival will include live entertainment, gourmet food trucks, craft beer by Blue Moon, an open-air market, children’s activities and an artist gallery.
“Chalk Walk give the community an opportunity to experience the creation of art as it’s happening,” says Jennifer Douglas, executive director of TBBCA. “Historically sidewalk art is known for engaging people of all artistic levels, regardless of age and experience.”
The Tampa Bay Times and tbt*Chalk Tail Party on Friday night features musical entertainment by 10th Concession, voted Tampa’s No. 1 band by Reverb Nation, TBT’s Ultimate Band and best indie rock/pop act by the readers of Creative Loafing (www.10thconcession.com). Ms. Lisa’s Dance and Ted Wray (voted Best of the Bay, Weekly Planet) will perform on Saturday; Grey Beard will perform on Sunday. Busch Gardens will also be on site with its animal ambassadors all day on Saturday.
A temporary artist gallery will be open in Hyde Park Village during the festival featuring participating Chalk Walk artists. Original works and giclee prints will be available for purchase. The gallery will be open March 9 –17 and again March 23-24. Visit www.tbbca.org for a full listing of gallery hours.
