Michael Maltzan Architecture, Inc. and Wannemacher Jensen Architects, Inc. are pleased to announce that local St. Petersburg engineering firm George F. Young, Inc. (GFY) has joined the new St. Petersburg Pier architecture and engineering design team. GFY will support the project with its local expertise in Civil Engineering, Utility Coordination, Surveying and Mapping, and Hydrographic Surveying and Mapping utilizing 3D Sonar for underwater mapping. GFY Company President Bill Kent stated “GFY is committed to helping St. Petersburg become a better place to live, work, and play. We are proud to be a part of the next generation of The Pier.”
GFY is a locally owned St. Petersburg based firm that has been in continuous operation since 1919. The firm has provided Civil Engineering and related services in support of the development of many of the premier projects that have inspired the downtown renaissance of St. Petersburg including several notable projects along the downtown waterfront, including All Children’s Hospital, Albert Whitted Airport Terminal and University of South Florida St. Petersburg Student Services Center.
ABOUT THE NEW PIER
The new St. Petersburg Pier design team is led by Michael Maltzan Architecture, Inc. of Los Angeles in association with local St. Petersburg architecture firm Wannemacher Jensen Architects, Inc.. Skanska USA Builders was selected as the project Construction Manager. The project is currently in design and is expected to begin construction in January of 2014. The new St. Petersburg Pier will be a universally accessible, functional icon for the City of St. Petersburg. Taking advantage of its prominent position on Tampa Bay, the new Pier will provide a myriad of water-centric recreational, educational and entertainment opportunities for the citizens of St. Petersburg and the tourists of the Tampa Bay region.
