|The Bridge Street Merchants, the Bridge Street Market and Sea-renity Spa & Boutique present a creative chowder cook-off competition and live music by the Tangled Mangos from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday February 3rd, 2013.
January 21, 2013 — After unpredictable weather forced a cancellation for the Chowder Challenge originally scheduled earlier this month,a new date has been set for the first Sunday in February. With Super Bowl kickoff much later that same day, the Bridge Street Merchants and Market Vendors expect a strong turn out to sample tasty entries from both restaurants and home cooks.
As seen in other Market Food Challenges, the entrants do take liberties. “Don’t expect everyone to do a classic white clam chowder. I’m sure we will have some surprises,” hints market manage Melissa Enders. By definition, chowders do not necessarily feature seafood or even cream, but they tend to be rich and chunky soups. Tasting costs only $5 and happens 11:30-2. There’s still room at the challenge table for additional entrants. Previous food challenge winners have been awarded a customized apron, which can be seen on display at winning island restaurants. This time, the first place winner will get a wooden cutting board emblazoned with the Bridge Street Merchants and Relay for Life logos. All proceeds from the Chowder Challenge will benefit the American Cancer Society’s 2013 Relay for Life team sponsored by Sea-renity Spa & Boutique which is located on historic Bridge Street.
The Bridge Street Market is sponsored by the Bridge Street Merchants; a non for profit 501 c6 comprised of business owners whose mission it is to promote Historic Bridge Street, the Bradenton Beach Community, and all its businesses.
