Lakeland, FL – Watson Clinic is pleased to announce three physicians have joined their medical group beginning in January.
Shawn Chhabra, MD, is a board-certifiedophthalmologist who will treat patients from the 4th floor of Watson Clinic’s Main location at 1600 Lakeland Hills Blvd. in Lakeland. He performs a wide range of procedures including cornea transplants, cataract surgery, bladeless LASIK surgery (refractive surgery) and other laser surgeries. In addition, he will manage patients with glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, as well as offers lens replacements using premium lens options to lessen a person’s dependency on glasses.
Dr. Chhabra earned both his undergraduate and medical degree from Boston University. He then completed his internal medicine internship at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, also in Boston. Dr. Chhabra went on for advanced training at two of the nation’s top ranked ophthalmology hospitals, including a residency at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia (ranked #3 by US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals 2012), and a fellowship in cornea/anterior segment at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami (currently ranked #1 by US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals).
Prior to joining Watson Clinic, Dr. Chhabra practiced at The Eye Clinic of Florida in Zephyrhills. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Florida Medical Association, and the Polk County Medical Association. He currently holds a board position with the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, serving as their regional representative for southwest Florida. Dr. Chhabra also serves as the current vice-president and 2013 president-elect for the Tampa Bay Ophthalmology Society, having been an officer since 2010. Jorge E. Burgueno, MD, has joined Watson Clinic as a hospital-based physician. As a hospitalist, Dr. Burgueno willorder appropriate tests, monitor patient conditions, make treatment decisions and coordinate patient care for Watson Clinic patients admitted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland. His areas of expertise include diabetes care, palliative medicine, critical care medicine and hospice care.
Dr. Burgueno received his medical degree from the Higher Institute of Medical Science in Camaguey, Cuba. He performed his internship and residency in internal medicine and critical care at the Higher Institute of Medical Science in Havana, Cuba, and an additional internship and residency in internal medicine at Texas Tech University Health Science in Lubbock, TX. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Florida Medical Association, the Polk County Medical Association and the Society of Hospital Medicine.
Carlos A. Feliciano, MD, is a board-certified neurologist who will see patients from his office on the 3rd floor of Watson Clinic’s Main location at 1600 Lakeland Hills Boulevard in Lakeland, as well as at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Dr. Feliciano received his medical degree from the Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He performed his internship at Ponce School of Medicine/ Hospital Episcopal San Lucas, and his residency in neurology at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL.
Dr. Feliciano is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association, and the Polk County Medical Association.
