(Sarasota, FL)- Easter Seals Southwest Florida announces the opening of the 3rd Annual DesignSense Challenge Competition to entrants. This year, designers locally and from around the world are invited to develop a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)-focused learning toy/tool for children and young adults on the autism spectrum. The purpose of the DesignSense Challenge is to explore how a collaboration of designers and educators can encourage STEM learning potential with creative tools that are specifically designed to enhance and strengthen the learning of these subjects for children and young adults with autism.
The winner of the competition will be announced at Easter Seals Southwest Florida’s Annual Design and Wine event held in March at GWIZ- The Science Museum. The top ten designs will also be on display at the event. The winner of the competition will receive a $1,000 cash prize sponsored by presenting sponsor, Information Visualization and Innovative Research Inc. (IVIR Inc.), and admission to the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA) Marketplace and Academy sponsored by founding sponsor, Children’s World Uniform Supply. In addition, IVIR Inc., a local innovative technology and research company, will be creating a prototype of the design to be built at the GWIZ Fab Lab and displayed at GWIZ.
Last year’s winning design was created by Nicholas Swerdlowe and can be viewed here: http://vimeo.com/47488355.
