TAMPA, Fla. — The Chamber commends the Tampa-Hillsborough Expressway Authority on becoming independent.
Through the sale of more than $455 million in bonds Thursday, THEA has attained financial independence from the State of Florida. This action enabled THEA and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to terminate their lease-purchase agreement and confirm THEA’s absolute ownership of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway and other assets.
“The Chamber firmly believes that local control of THEA is best and supported those efforts throughout the years with our past successful “Keep Expressways Local” campaign,” said Bob Rohrlack, President and CEO, Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. “THEA provides a vital commuting artery for Tampa Bay and the strong stewardship by its Board and management has proven that the Authority is an entity whose practices serve as an excellent model to emulate.”
