LAKELAND, FL (December 10, 2012) — The City of Lakeland is pleased to announce the appointment of Dana Blydenburgh as Director of Retirement Services. She has been an employee with the City for the past 10 years and she has served as the Interim Director of Retirement Services for the past year and a half.
City Manager Doug Thomas said, “Dana has a proven track record within the Department. She has years of experience with the City in both the Civil Service and Retirement Services Departments and she has served as the Interim Director for over one year.” He added, “She played a significant role in navigating recent pension reform initiatives including the separation of the Fire Fighters from the General Employees’ Plan, coupled with the Police and Fire Plans transitioning to 3rd Party Administrators. Also, she has the full support of the General Employees’ Pension Board in the new role as evidenced by their unanimous vote of support on September 25, 2012.”
As Director, Blydenburgh will oversee and administer the Employees’ Pension Plan, Defined Contribution Plans, Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP), Deferred Compensation Plans and the Vantage Care Retirement Health Savings Plan. She will also serve as the City liaison and coordinator for all Board of Trustee meetings for the General Employees’ Pension Plan and the Plan’s Investment Committee.
Blydenburgh said, “I appreciate the vote of confidence by the Pension Board and City Management in officially appointing me as Director of Retirement Services. I am encouraged by the engaged and cooperative spirit of employees, board and management – it’s the “secret sauce” to continued success and sustainability of the plans.”
Blydenburgh is married to her husband Kevin and they have five children Alexandra, Ted, Andrew, Sophia, and Hudson. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her family. Blydenburgh has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida. She is a member of the Florida Public Pension Trustees Association (FPPTA), the International City Management Association and she has attained the Public Pension Trustee certification through the FPPTA.
Blydenburgh’s annual salary as Director of Retirement Services is $89,000 and she is 41 years of age.
