TAMPA, FL – December 5, 2012 – Elements Architects and Interior Designers Director of Marketing, Karen McKinney, was honored by CREW Tampa Bay [Commercial Real Estate Women] at their
1st Annual Excellence Awards with the Carl Cronan Media Excellence Award.
McKinney joined Elements in January 2008 and became a CREW Tampa Bay member that year. After serving on several committees, she was named to the Board of Directors as Media/PR Chair in 2011. She was in charge of the technology committee asked to look for alternatives to the chapter’s website that needed updating. Her team interviewed many companies looking for the right fit for CREW needs. She led the committee that branded the new site for a successful transition.
During 2010, 2011 and 2012, McKinney applied for and was selected for the CREW Network Communications and Editorial Advisory Board. This group sets the editorial calendar for CREW Network publications that reach over 8,000 members in 74 chapters in the US and Canada. Its members are asked to write at least one article per year, or find an industry expert to complete the task. McKinney is the only CREW member to serve for three terms on this Network committee.
In addition, McKinney’s article, “CREW Network Makes a Difference in Many Lives” highlighted the efforts of CREW Tampa Bay members who started www.RealEstateLives.org to assist others who lost their jobs due to the recession. She interviewed chapter presidents across the US to find out what their chapters were doing for members in the same position for their national magazine.
The late Carl Cronan was a Tampa Bay area commercial real estate reporter and editor who passed away in 2007. Cronan had a keen sense of humor, the strongest work ethic around, and a true professional in every way. He had a large group of sources that were very loyal to him, although he checked out every lead and didn’t always believe everything he heard until he made sure it was true. It was his integrity and quick wit that people remember most about him.
