This Saturday, December 1st, 32 local students, in grades 3rd-10th, will take a stroll down the red carpet on their way to the first screening of their new film, “Color Me Invisible”. This sci-fi short was created in Inspired Minds’ two week Film Kids program and focuses on the struggle many kids face to stay true to themselves. “Our student filmmakers chose this topic because they feel there is so much pressure to blend in, to hide who they really are, especially once they hit middle school” states Heather Manley, Co Owner of Inspired Minds. “I think that is really what makes this film so special. Besides being a really cool sci-fi short, this film offers their perspective on how painful this pressure can be. It is honest, and I think that honesty will help the film reach other kids.” Manley said she feels this is a film that not only kids, but parents and teachers should see.
Following the screening, the Sarasota Film Commission Office will be honoring Inspired Minds and the Film Kids Program for their efforts to make a positive impact in film. The program and the students will be presented with a proclamation stating that December 1st is “Film Kids Day”. The free screening Of “Color Me Invisible” will be held at Lakewood Ranch Cinemas this Saturday, December 1st at 9:30 AM. |
