NAPLES, FL. (November 15, 2012) — The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP announces that Kelly L. Davis, a senior associate in the firm’s Naples office and Sarah L. Fowles, an associate in the firm’s Milwaukee office, presented at the NORA Annual Conference on November 8th and 9th to an audience of approximately 75 NORA members in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Davis’ presentation was entitled “Protecting Yourself from Disgruntled Employees.” In this presentation she discussed the enormous potential damage that can be caused by a disgruntled employee and the policies and strategies to consider implementing to protect a business from the potential damage. Fowles, an associate in the firm’s Employee Benefits Group presented on “Preparing for ObamaCare: What Employers Need to Know Now.” In this presentation she explained how employers should understand and prepare for the “Pay or Play Rule” that generally requires “large” employers to provide a minimum level of health plan coverage to “full-time” employees or pay a penalty. Although the rule does not take effect until January 1, 2014, decisions employers make as early as the fourth quarter of 2012 can impact the coverage that is offered in 2014.
Davis is a management-side labor and employment lawyer whose practice focuses on employment-related litigation and counseling of employee-related matters. Her experience includes investigating and defending discrimination and harassment charges and lawsuits, litigating wage and hour collective actions, resolving disputes arising from employee separations, and advising and implementing appropriate strategies and policies for workplace compliance matters. Fowles practices in all areas of employee benefits, including qualified retirement plans, welfare plans, executive compensation and equity compensation. Her experience includes providing advice to clients regarding compliance with group health plan mandates and welfare plan nondiscrimination rules, assisting clients navigate employee benefits, executive compensation and equity compensation issues arising in both stock and asset purchases and drafting qualified retirement plan documents.
